Indigenous investors set to pool $39 million tourism investment in Ife (Nigeria)

La Campagne Tropicana, an indigenous resort development company based in Lagos, is collaborating with other investors as it veers into the tourism and hospitality sector, in line with government’s determination to diversify the economy.

The outfit, with over five resorts in Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire, is partnering other indigenous investors with the endorsement of the Ife Palace to deliver a N7.6 billion tourism project tagged; Ife Grand Resort’ in Osun State.

The resort, which is expected to take off February 26, will kick start the
development of the zone into a tourism destination of world-class standard, and also offer over 20,000 jobs to the indigenes.

The employment is expected to empower people and foster peace among the people; a major ingredient for sustainable tourism development, and also put to rest the ghost of the over 200 years old conflict between Ife and Modakeke.

According to Wanle Akinboboye, founder, La Campagne Tropicana, and recently appointed chief tourism adviser and consultant to Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, the project will be delivered through Motherland Beckons, a multi-purpose vehicle that has seen
simpler projects of its like to fruition in the past.

Akinboboye said it was a grand design by the Ooni to redesign the tourism map and agenda of Ife by drawing the attention of Africans, the Diaspora and the entire globe to it in a way that had never been done in
the history of the former Ife Kingdom,
which is not only regarded as the Source of Yoruba but the cradle of South West civilisation.

However, with the Ife Grand Resort, the Ooni, a business Czar and owner of Inagbe Resort, who was crowned late last year, is set to declare Ife a tourism zone in furtherance of his promise to foster peace and unity, and bring economic prosperity to his people by opening up Ife to the world
through tourism.

At a meeting between the would be
investors and Ooni in his palace recently, Oba Ogunwusi said: ‘‘With the massive project that is going to open up the town to the world, the glory of Ife is finally coming to light.

Ife is now the new destination in
Africa as the sleeping giant of tourism in Africa wakes up to a new reality. “Henceforth, the whole world will come to Ife on religious, cultural, economic, educational, and archaeological tourism among others.”
