The Virtual Museum of Modern Nigerian Art.

The Virtual Museum of Modern Nigerian Art; a unique, interactive,
searchable website that enables users to view contemporary art from
Nigeria and to learn about the artists, schools and styles. This
gallery is must see for all Nigerian art lovers

WHAT IS THE VIRTUAL MUSEUM?

The Virtual Museum of Modern Nigerian Art (VMMNA) is an online, free,
searchable database of Nigerian art from the beginning of the
twentieth century. Its main aim is to serve as an educational resource
that will contribute to the dissemination of knowledge on modern
Nigerian art and artists among the widest possible audience.
Arranged over different 'floors' and sections like a real gallery, the
VMMNA leads you on a journey though Nigerian art history, detailing
the various art schools and movements along with a list of some of the
main artists that were part of each art movement. You will learn about
the Zaria School, the Osogbo Experiment, the Yaba School and so much
more. By assembling materials such as newspaper articles, blogs and
links to informative sources, the VMMNA provides a virtual tour guide
to bring added colour and context to the gallery.

ART COLLECTION
The artworks displayed in this virtual museum are held in private,
corporate and institutional collections in and outside Nigeria. Many
of these works have never been seen by the general public nor properly
documented in general or specialized publications. Consequently, they
have remained largely unknown till date!
The information and images featured under the VMMNA are organized
around Exhibition Rooms; with each room devoted to a particular
period, school or homogenous group of artists. In addition, the museum
features a virtual gallery for the display of temporary online
exhibitions.

PROJECT SPONSORS
The Virtual Museum of Modern Nigerian Art is a project of the
Pan-African University. It is made possible by the financial
assistance of its generous sponsors. The initiator and director of the
project is Jess Castellote, a Spanish architect living in Lagos,
Nigeria. He is the Director of the Virtual Museum of Modern Nigerian
art.
